Governor Murphy Declares State of Emergency in Preparation for Winter Storm

Governor Phil Murphy declared that New Jersey will enter a State of Emergency effective at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 9, in anticipation of severe storms causing hazardous weather conditions including heavy rain, high winds, and flash flooding. Executive Order No. 350 declares a State of Emergency across all 21 counties in New Jersey, allowing resources to be deployed throughout the state during the duration of the storm.

“Continuing through Wednesday morning, we are expecting one to four inches of heavy rain, strong winds, and potential inland and coastal flooding,”said Governor Murphy.“This storm will exacerbate the effects of the inclement conditions we experienced in December and this past weekend and may precede another storm Friday night. As always, I urge all New Jerseyans – including residents in our coastal and riverine communities – to follow all safety protocols and remain off the roads unless absolutely necessary.”

Pennsauken To Hold Annual 9/11 Flag Placement Ceremony

Each year, American flags are placed throughout Pennsauken’s 9/11 Memorial, located at the corner of Merchantville Ave. and Rt. 130, across the street from the Township’s Municipal Building and the Pennsauken Free Public Library.

“We invite everyone to join us for an annual tradition that is extremely important to our community,” said Pennsauken Mayor Vincent Martinez. “Pennsauken’s flag placement is a moving ceremony, with residents and first responders coming together to remember the terror attacks 22 years ago. CCPO Major Crimes Unit Investigates Shooting of Man in Pennsauken

The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Pennsauken Police Department are investigating the shooting of a Pennsauken man on Friday morning, reported Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Pennsauken Police Chief Phil Olivo.

On Friday, July 28, 2023, at approximately 2:15 a.m., the CCPO Major Crimes Unit and the Pennsauken Police Department responded to the shooting of a 29-year-old man at the 2000 block of 39th Street in Pennsauken, N.J. The victim who was suffering from gunshot wounds was subsequently transported to Cooper University Hospital by EMS, and he is currently in stable condition.

Notice Of Public Hearing On August 17

Pennsauken Township will be conducting a public hearing for the proposed Chestnut Ave. Rails to Trails Project between 36th St. and Euclid Ave. during the Township Committee meeting scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 17, 6:00 p.m. at the second floor of the Township Municipal Building, 5605 N. Crescent Blvd.

This hearing is being held to offer residents and interested parties the opportunity to comment and ask questions related to the project, which will be funded by a NJDOT grant. If you cannot attend in person, viewing the meeting is available through a YouTube live stream. Questions and comments can be shared via the chat option and will be addressed during the hearing. This live stream can be located at YouTube.com/PennsaukenTelevision.

Senior Citizen Appreciation Day Postponed

Yesterday, Pennsauken Township announced that the Senior Citizen Appreciation Day scheduled for June 8 at the Municipal Pool has been postponed to next week.

“Pennsauken Township Committee and our Parks and Recreation Department have made the decision to postpone Thursday’s Senior Citizen Appreciation Day at the Pennsauken Municipal Pool,” the Township said in an online statement. “The ongoing poor air quality issues from the Canadian wildfires prevent us from safely holding this event.”

The new date for this event is Thursday, June 15, from noon to 4:00 p.m., at the Municipal Pool. Anyone with questions regarding this change can contact seniors@pennsauken.gov or call 856-665-1000 x151 or x152.
